US military training has always been regarded as being among the best in the world when it comes to training with new technologies.

To prove that point, the Electronics Technicians Association International (ETA) has approved six US military Fiber Optics Installer Training Schools to serve as official ETA Certified Fiber Optics Installer Training Sites. The ETA Fiber Optics Installer Certification (FOIC) Program for the US military is based on the same certification criteria and "hands on" training that civilian professional fiber optics installers receive from "high tech" civilian training schools.

US military members from all branches of the service now can earn ETA’s Fiber Optics Installer Certification based on their "hands on" training received through the approved military Fiber Training Schools listed in this article.

Montgomery G.I. Bill Pays the Certification Exam Fee

Most military graduates of ETA approved fiber optics installer training schools are eligible to receive ETA FOIC Certification. The cost of the exam is $150.00, which may then be reimbursed using the MGIB.

However, supplemental study materials covering civilian standards, codes and hardware not covered in the military run courses are needed to ensure military members have the same background as civilian installers when attempting the certification exams.

Supplemental Study Packages are available at no cost for all active duty military members and reservists from Military Testing Centers.

Any active duty, retired military personnel, spouses and recently discharged personnel with GI Bill credits, with a valid military ID card that has attended an ETA approved fiber optics installer training school is eligible to receive reimbursement for fiber optics certification under this program. The cost of the exam is $150.00  when taking the exam through Military Testing Centers or any other ETA approved Fiber Optics School.

ETA currently has 33 approved FOI Program schools located throughout the US, including the military run fiber schools listed in this article. A service jacket entry or completion certificate from an ETA approved school must be presented to US Military Testing Centers prior to attempting the certification exam to confirm eligibility under this VA funded program.

The  program is intended only for those military personnel that have not previously been certified by the ETA as a Fiber Optics Installer. One free re-take of the examination is permitted should one fail the initial exam. Interested personnel should consult with representatives of their US Military Testing Center to request an ETA Fiber Optics Installer Certification examination.
